Penetrating Hope (穿たれた希望, Ugatareta Kibō) is the two hundred and ninetieth chapter of the Fire Force manga series.
Summary[]
Shinra receives the blowback of being pierced in the chest by Haumea and collapses on the ground seconds after. Shō hurryingly rushes to his brother's side with Haumea noting how Shinra's apparent death has brung a close to the despair that could only end in death. Shō argues with Haumea about how the world won't end but is stopped by Shinra pulling on his arm from behind. Shinra is shown to be standing up with the Rod of Asclepius coming out of the hole where his chest was pierced saying that he's fine, actually, and Haumea explaining that someone from Earth is influencing Adolla through an Adolla Link. Shinra, looking at the snake, realises who it belongs to. Back on Earth, Kayoko is looking at her burning Stigma with her full right arm ablaze as she says how Shinra has been healed through the Stigma she received when she treated him back then during the Netherworld arc. Asako and Hibana are a few feet away shouting concernedly for her. Kayoko is then shown on her knees with her last words being that those flames weren't safe for her to touch before burning up completely. As Hibana is holding back Asako, she says out loud hopingly to Shinra for him to come back with Iris. With Shinra being fully recovered now, he resolves himself in front of Shō, Haumea and the Evangelist, saying that he won't be swallowed up by rage anymore and that he is a hero, not a devil, fighting to protect the civilians. Shinra tries to punch Haumea but fails, Haumea once again says how he cannot touch her, however, Shinra retorts with the fact that her hair was moved during his attack, and so that he can clearly influence her in some way. With Shinra theorising that the Evangelist fears him because he can bring change, even if small. After knocking him back, Haumea replies that the Evangelist fears nothing, letting out that the last flame of despair is about to be lit. Outside, Company 8 is managing the evacuation of the civilians to nearby shelters. While Licht and Vulcan are discussing what job to do next, Licht notices Ōbi coming up behind him and then walking past him. As Licht starts to become confused as to why he is here, Tamaki is looking worriedly at Ōbi as there is a figure behind him, with the reveal of the Obi from before being Ōbi's dopplegänger as he is holding the real Ōbi by the head as he slits his neck, letting him drop onto the ground with his slit neck as his blood fills the ground next to him. Shinra feels Ōbi's death as it happens and then succumbs to his rage instantly, shouting that he will kill Haumea.
